What is your guilty splurge?

We all have our beauty products that a ‘knock-off’ just won’t do. We waste money trying to find a more affordable replacement for our pricey product but just can’t seem to do it. My guilty splurge is eye shadow. I LOVE Bobbi Brown eye shadow! The colors are gorgeous and they last all day.  Without creasing!  As I walk through the beauty store picking up my ‘can’t-live-without’ items, I can’t help but wonder what the other beauty shoppers can’t live without.  What are their guilty splurges?  This is my chance to find out!

Please take the quick poll below and tell me why I should splurge on your product.

At-Home Deep Conditioner

Taking care of your hair is important, especially if you have long hair.  I love getting conditioning treatments but you can spend $25+ at the salon for a deep conditioning treatment.  That’s a lot when you can do it at home for a fraction of the cost.  I’ve said before I LOVE everything beauty and I love to do at-home spa treatments regularly.  A few months ago I did one that is by far the best I’ve come up with (and I’ve tried a ton!) and my hair looked and felt fabulous for days!  I used a deep conditioner that I keep on hand (One ‘n Only Argan Oil Deep Conditioner) and added 1 Tablespoon of coconut oil to it.  Mixed them together, covered my hair with a shower cap, and left it on for 25 minutes.  I cannot tell you how amazing my hair felt! And it’s still shiny.  This is concoction I will use regularly.  I was so excited I just had to share it!  Below is the deep conditioner (they carry it @ Ulta, Sally Beauty, and even Amazon).  It doesn’t have to be this one, you can use your favorite deep conditioner and then just add coconut oil.

The 8.5 oz runs about $10

Okay, so I have to start by saying I am one that has a little trouble adjusting to change.  Case in point…just got back from taking my kids to school and noticed the gas station I go to completely revamped their sign. I’m still thinking about it! A gas station sign!!!  My point for telling you this is so that you know when I compare a luxury brand item and a drug store brand item and say they are almost identical, I MEAN it.  I do what ever it takes to find a cheaper version that looks exactly the same!  This leads me to my go-to color lipstick that I’ve been using for years…MAC Pretty Please.  I love it!!! It is the perfect pale pink with a hint of shimmer.  Love!! But for the past year I have been on the hunt to find one  for less $ and that you don’t have to go to the mall for.  OMG I finally found it!  It’s Revlon Super Lustrous Sky Line Pink.  Gorgeous!! The color looks exactly the same on.  The only difference I notice between the two is that the MAC is a little more moisturizing and feels like a balm.  But it also wears off quicker because of it (at least on me).  But I don’t care much about the feel difference.  I just swipe on lip balm under the Maybelline or a clear gloss on top.  I am so excited about this find because it has been my favorite main-stay lipstick for so many years and to find a version that is half the cost so exciting!  For those that light a pale pink shimmer lipstick give it try.  Now I wanna go put some on again 😉

Lip Scrub

I’m not sure how other women walk around all winter with their lipstick looking perfectly smooth and shiny.  My lips always seem to be chapped or kinda peeling which does NOT look cute no matter how much you try to cover it with lipstick.  It actually makes it look worse!  So a couple of years ago, I started playing around in the kitchen (which I’ve always done;) ) to make a treatment for lips because I was having trouble finding one in the beauty store.  And on the rare occasion that I did find a lip treatment it was expensive.  Anyway, I’ve been doing this at home treatment on my lips twice a week and cannot tell you how wonderful my lips feel! They are smooth and subtle feeling.  And best of all my lipstick goes on smoothly and doesn’t look caked from chapped lips! I usually only need to do it during the winter and about twice a week or so.  I wanted to share it with you all in case you are not one of those blessed women I see walking around with naturally subtle smooth lipstick laced lips;)

Lip Scrub Recipe:

1/2 teaspoon sugar

1/2 teaspoon brown sugar

1/2-1 teaspoon lemon juice

1/4-1/2 teaspoon vanilla or maple extract (you don’t have to do this part but I love the flavor it gives…even tho I’m not eating it!)

This makes enough to last for a couple of months! I put it in this cute little jar and keep it in my refrigerator.  Buy a small soft toothbrush that is just for your lips.  Mix the ingredients.  Over your bathroom sink wet lips and lightly brush with soft toothbrush to exfoliate.  Then dip toothbrush in lip scrub and in circular motions lightly brush your lips.  I do this for 30 seconds or so.  Then rinse.  That’s it!  Sometimes I will then put coconut oil on my lips for a minute or two (trying not to talk or lick my lips) and then rinse off.  That just adds extra conditioning and moisturizing.  This has worked wonders for me.  Again, I have to do it a couple times a week to maintain smooth lips but when it only takes a few seconds it is SO worth it!!  Here are a couple pics below so you can see what it looks like.  This batch has maple extract which is why it is darker.  You don’t have to add extract at all, if you like lemon the lemon juice makes it taste yummy by itself;)

Mascara, mascara, mascara!

For some it’s lipstick or lip gloss, others it maybe bronzer, but for me…it’s mascara!  I am obsessed with finding the perfect mascara. I have tried well over 25 mascara’s over the years looking for the “perfect” one.  To me, that would be one that not only thickens lashes but lengthens them as well but without clumping, lasts all day, and is easy to take off.  So now you see why I have tried so many brands (prestige and drug store brands).  Now…I know this all may sound like a lot to ask from one little tube of mascara but I am not about to use multiple mascara’s a day to obtain the look.  Who has time for that? So after hundreds of dollars and many mornings cursing, or loving, my lashes I have found two that I absolutely love! I say two because I have my affordable brand and my “splurge” brand.  I am in love with both of them and believe I have found, at least for me, the fountain of eyelash youth! They both give me wide-eyed fabulous lashes that last and wash off easily using my cleanser (no make up remover!).  So here they are!  I hope you love them as much as I do!  Let me know what you think.  Or if you believe you have found the perfect mascara let me know.  I just may try it…a girl should never rule out all her options 😉
